The Simunye Project

I’ve said time and again that the best part ab out CrossFit Kirkwood is the community. Chock full of smart, funny, and compassionate folks. Well, Val has brought an awesome cause to my attention!

My senior daughter, Jordin, is leaving for South Africa March 25, to do a 3 week mission project.  It is called Simunye Project.  Nine seniors from Principia are going to areas around Johannesburg working with children in Adoption and Foster care facilities.  Along with playing and doing activities with the children, they plan to build an outdoor kitchen and a basic plumbing system with toilets.  Currently they use wholes.  If they have enough money, materials and time they hope to also build a well for fresh water.

We have been collecting financial donations for clothing for the children and materials to build.  We are also collecting used shoes of all sizes both for children and adults.  They currently don’t wear any.  They also are requesting gently used BRAS and new underwear, again of all sizes. It is a fact that as the women and children start to wear undergarments the rape rate goes down dramatically!

I was hoping to reach out to the Crossfit Community and ask for any kind of donation: shoes, bras, underwear, or financial.  These will all go to a great cause!  Jordin will take these items and donations personally and hand them out to the people in the very poor communities where she will be working.

What an AWESOME cause!!! Val will leave a collection box at the gym this Saturday and will pick it up on March 20th. I’m not sure how big a box she plans to bring, but I would LOVE to see it filled to the brim! You can check out their website here to see all of the great work that they do.
