Julie Foucher

This was the high and low part of the CrossFit Games Regionals. Julie Foucher was putting together a great run for the Games, finishing 1st in the world in the Open and was leading the Central Regional going into day 2. It looked like she was going to win event 3 when she ruptured her achilles. Low part.

But the way she dealt with it was one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever seen in CrossFit. She was composed, and managed to get a few more 1 foot box jumps in. Then, she went on to complete the 250′ handstand walk IN A BOOT! She got a 85# muscle snatch to close out the day. THEN, she competed on day 3 and came in 8th place on a workout where she had to row with one foot, do chest to bar pullups, and do strict deficit handstand pushups! Absolutely incredible. She finished with 15 muscle ups and made a very wise decision to not attempt any squat cleans.

Accidents happen in CrossFit and in life. It’s easy to just sit down and feel sorry for yourself. I hope I never have an injury that serious, but I will remember the way Julie responded and do my best to keep my head up.

Here’s an article summarizing the event.
