Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to testing week.
For the past eight weeks, we have focused on snatch, back squat, clean and jerk, and deadlift. In the grand scheme of things, this is a fairly short period of time. However, I think it is definitely significant enough to see some solid progress. If you’ve been putting in the work, get yourself ready for a pr or 2 (or 3 or 4). Here are two things I think of when I approach a new max:
- “Pshh… this isn’t heavy. I’ve got this!!!” This may seem silly, but confidence really is key. I visualize a good lift. Actually, I do this over and over. For the hour before. And maybe the day before. Sometimes the week before. I visualize it so much, that all my body can do is replicate what it already knows will happen. Be confident and visualize the lift.
- I get amped up. I wish there was a better way to say that. But that’s what I do. I try to get excited about the lift. If I can get a little adrenaline flowing, I’m that much more likely to make the lift.
On the other side of the coin, if I happen to miss the lift, I never beat myself up about it. Ok, that’s probably not true. I’m not perfect, and I can be hard on myself. But I always TRY to not beat myself up. It’s just a lift. Who knows what’s going on. Maybe I’m a little under the weather, lacking sleep, overstressed, or maybe I just had too much fun over the holidays. No matter the reason, I try to let it go. I’ll get them next time.
All that being said, approach this week with excitement and confidence. Let’s put up some big numbers!!!
